Sara Shanti

Sara H. Shanti is an associate in the firm’s Health Care Practice Group.

Sara focuses her practice on representation of health care providers, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, multi-specialty physician groups and ancillary service providers in privacy compliance and health care regulatory matters. Her practice includes handling privacy and security matters arising under HIPAA and the HITECH Act, performing client risk assessments and offering guidance on electronic medical records and exchanges. Sara also provides counsel on ADA, Anti-Kickback statute, and EMTALA compliance, as well as federal health care programs requirements, hospital and health professional licensure and medical staff relationship matters.

Prior to Drinker, Sara worked as an attorney and federal investigator for the Office for Civil Rights of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. While at OCR, Sara conducted federal investigations of alleged violations of federal regulations, and enforced and provided guidance on federal civil rights laws, HIPAA and the HITECH Act.

While in law school, Sara conducted medical research at the Loyola University Medical Center, focusing on epigenetics and immunologic response in cancer patients. As a clinical research associate at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Sara generated clinical research tools and statistical analyses.

In General. Sara earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, with certificates in advocacy and health law. She received her B.S. in biology from the University of Michigan.
