NIH awards $5M in funding for research on use of genomic sequencing of newborns

The National Institutes of Health has awarded $5 million in funding to four grantees for fiscal year 2013, to promote studies on the potential for genome and exome sequencing in newborn health care.  Funding awards cover: genomic sequencing and analysis; research related to patient care; and the ethical, legal and social implications of using genomic information in the newborn period.
