FDA panel debates “three-parent IVF” genetic modification

Scientists think this technique has the potential to be very helpful for women who carry DNA mutations for conditions such as blindness and epilepsy. The genetic modification would allow women who carry these DNA mutations to have children, without passing on those defects. While many scientists feel strongly that this technology has huge potential to help people, many critics say the technology could lead to creating “designer” babies.
