3D printed medical device saved baby’s life
With the increased interest in 3D printing, many are revisiting the miraculous story from last year, when a baby with a collapsed bronchus was saved by the use of a 3D printed medical device. Doctors at the University of Michigan were granted emergency clearance from the FDA to implant a 3D printed tracheal splint made from a biopolymer. The splint served as a skeletal aid, expanding the bronchus and allowing for proper growth.
